This was a character design painting, done pretty much in 2-3 sessions, totaling about 7-8hrs. I used a Dungeons and Dragons character for inspiration, and focused on using contrast and colour pairings to pop the alchemical archer from the background.

Well with the New Year approaching it’s about time I posted up some of the most recent painting work and sketches that I’ve produced over the past couple of months (as I’ve yet again done a great job of forgetting about my Tumblr!). This is a painting I started over the summer that I dusted off and promptly painted over this last month or so, entitled ‘A Valley By The Light’. Here’s a sketch I did the other night in preparation for a D&D session - really love the Col-erase pencils, particularly the dark blue ones for some reason, hence the blue lineart! Anyhow, been CRAAAAAZY busy with work, but will do my best to keep up posting here!

A quick pen only doodle from my sketchbook last night as I went to bed. Think I’m going to try and do more straight to pen sketches as it really forces you to commit to the design and not pussyfoot about. I’ve also found it builds good fine liner control using different pressures for underdrawing and detailing. More to follow!

A freebie for Wednesday - My textured inking brush. I often use this for grittier elements and things I’d usually use either a nib or a grease pencil/crayon for if I were working traditionally. Gives some interesting results, very responsive to pressure and tilt.
