This was a character design painting, done pretty much in 2-3 sessions, totaling about 7-8hrs. I used a Dungeons and Dragons character for inspiration, and focused on using contrast and colour pairings to pop the alchemical archer from the background.
Here’s the live inking demo I did last Friday night on my Ustream channel, this week focusing on Line Weight Usage. I’m going to try to broadcast every Friday night, so if you’ve got a topic you’d like to see covered or a suggestion drop me a Tweet to @Tom_Parrish or email me using the link to the left!
A freebie for Wednesday - My textured inking brush. I often use this for grittier elements and things I’d usually use either a nib or a grease pencil/crayon for if I were working traditionally. Gives some interesting results, very responsive to pressure and tilt. Give it a whirl and see what you think :-) Drop me a Tweet or a comment if you enjoyed it or have suggestions and feel free to share it or retweet etc!
Having a super hectic week at this end, but found 10 minutes to doodle in Sketchbook Pro over lunch. I’ve always loved Humberto Ramos and Chris Bachalo’s renditions of Wolverine, somehow the exaggerated (and awesome!) art style they have really brings out the best in the character for me. So I tried to be a bit more OTT that I would ordinarily be with proportions and expression, hopefully capturing a bit more than the usual character sketch :-)
